After running cross country through middle school, I stopped running during high school because of basketball but got back in to it once I started college. At first, all of my running was on the road until I saw a poster for the River Gorge 6.5 mile trail race. For some reason it sparked my interest, and I have been running trails ever since. As my mileage increased, I decided to try the Stump Jump 50k as my first ultra and fell in love with the longer distance races.

I feel truly blessed to have the God-given opportunity to run and experience all that trail running has to offer. I have met some of my closest friends through the sport. Spending time with family and friends on the trail is one of my favorite things to do.

I am currently a graduate student at UTC majoring in health and exercise science with the hopes of teaching physical education and coaching basketball and cross country.

I also had the opportunity to volunteer at the Rock Creek Stump Jump and Lookout Mountain 50 mile races. Both are first class events and volunteering is equally rewarding as racing!

What are your proudest running accomplishments?
Running is such a journey and challenge for me that I continue to learn more about myself with each and every race. It can also be an extremely humbling experience and makes me realize how blessed I am to be able to run. Completing the 3 days of Syllamo was a big accomplishment as I had never done consecutive days like this before. Finishing Pinhoti 100 was also an awesome experience.

Which races do you plan to run in 2012?
With so many great races to choose from, it is getting harder and harder for me to pick!
I would like to do Twisted Ankle Marathon, Chattanooga Stage Race, Superior Sawtooth 100, Lookout 50 mile, and any other race that I have the chance to do! If there is one thing I have learned, it is that you must take one day at a time and not get too caught up in future races because you never know what tomorrow will bring.
