After a very successful Women’s Trail Running Summit last summer, Rock/Creek is pleased to announce a 2nd Annual Women’s Trail Running Summit. Last year’s event, held at Wasson Lodge in Camp Ocoee, sold out in under an hour and included 35 participants from seven different states. Taking place September 10th-13th, this year’s version will be based out of The Crash Pad in the south side of Chattanooga and focus on the uniquely accessible and beautiful trails of Lookout Mountain, Signal Mountain, and Walden Ridge areas. Registration for the Trail Summit is open on Ultrasignup.
Sponsored by The North Face and Rock/Creek, The Women’s Trail Running Summit will bring together a dedicated group of female trail runners who share a passion for running, the outdoors, and the promotion of an active lifestyle in their own communities. According to Dreama Campbell, Rock/Creek Race Team member and coordinator of the Summit, “The purpose of this weekend is for participants to inspire and learn from one another, foster new connections, improve female participation in trail running, and become ambassadors of the sport.”
Participants at the summit will be joined by The North Face sponsored ultra runner Diane Van Deren. One of the most accomplished and respected ultra runners in the world, Diane is an elite athlete who has inspired thousands of individuals with her unique experiences as a professional athlete, coach, and mother. Growing up in Colorado, Diane competed on boys’ baseball teams, rode horses in rodeos, and won state titles in both golf and tennis. An All-American tennis player in college, Diane became a professional tennis player upon graduation–traveling through the U.S. and Europe for several years. Upon settling down to raise a family, she shifted her energies towards coaching and training.
Some of the numerous awards and accolades that she has received include, but are not limited to:
- Female Trail Runner of the Year (Teva Mountain Games, 2005)
- 2009 winner of the Arctic 320 and 430 miler
- 2010 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year
- Recipient of 2011 Sports Emmy Award as subject of short feature for ESPN’s Outside the Lines: Time Out of Mind
- Set world record in 2012 for running North Carolina’s 1,000-mile Mountains-to-Sea Trail
- 5-time finisher of Hardrock 100
Diane will participate in Saturday’s runs and then offer what will surely be an engaging and inspiring seminar/clinic for the group. Later that Saturday evening, Rock/Creek at 2 North Shore will host a pint night and presentation featuring Diane Van Deren. This event will be open to the public, with tickets and information to be available at a later date. Please stay tuned!
Presented by The North Face, the 2015 Rock/Creek Women’s Trail Summit will bring passionate and dedicated outdoor athletes to Chattanooga–exploring the local trails of Lookout Mountain, The Reflection Riding Center Arboretum and Nature Center, Signal Mountain, and Walden Ridge areas. Under the supervision of Rock/Creek as well as experienced ultra runners and trail runners, participants will be sure to leave the summit with motivation and knowledge to become confident trail running ambassadors in their own communities.
Rock/Creek is pleased to work with both The North Face, The Crash Pad, and our associated vendors to, once again, promote the wonderful and uniquely accessible outdoor opportunities available to our ‘Scenic City’.
