The Yakima "Same Key System" (SKS) Lock Cores offer instant security for lockable Yakima accessories. Yakima offers their Lock Cores separately from other products as a convenience, so that you can have one key for your entire Yakima system.
Say, for instance, you purchased a Q-tower system and two bike mounts. If the cores came with each product, then they would not match and you would have 3 different keys for your rack system. Add another accessory, add another key to the chain. Instead, a 6 pack of lock cores will lock the set of towers and both bike mounts and keep everything on the same key.

If your buying a Yakima system you really need to buy these locks. Keep your rack and/or your accessories safe. I have them, keep the key in my car and I feel comfortable leaving my bike on top of my ride when I have to run into the store to grab a quick bite to eat.
I recommend to anyone using the Yakima systems!
One downfall (or could be) -- Make sure if you have to buy extra locks, to buy all the same "code" of locks so you don't have to carry around multipul keys.

[...]. All bike rack products are overpriced. The locks have a sliding door that makes them tricky to slide the key into. Especially if the key is on a key ring and the locked skewer is 0.5" from cross bar, and u have to turn the key in the opposite direction to unlock. But, they work and give me piece of mind.
