Shopping for a canoe or kayak? Watch Rock/Creek paddling expert Sara Horne’s boating intro!
"Getting into paddling can be pretty confusing. There are a zillion different boat options, and it can be pretty tough to decide what kind of canoe or kayak is best for what you’d like to do. Do you need a sea kayak, a recreational kayak or a touring kayak? Do you want to run creeks with multiple whitewater rapids, or load up your boat with a weekend’s camping gear and paddle from island to island?"

Comments about Wilderness Systems Pungo 100 Recreational Kayak:

Switching from canoeing lakes to kayaking rivers because of a job move meant learning a whole new system. Having never kayaked before, the Rock Creek staff did me a solid. They worked with me for a few days, trying different boats and seats and I settled on the Pungo 120. I rolled and flipped and sunk my Pungo several times on my first trip down the Hiwassee River. The river was high and fast after days of rain. The dry box stayed bone dry. The seat stayed adjusted and rocks and gravel left hardly a mark. I'm a big guy(250+) and the Pungo handles me and a lot of gear with ease. I will be using my Pungo to lead blue trail outings, and I have no doubt it will serve me well for many years. The only problem I see is its hard to drain when full of water. Tipping the boat back and forth to drain takes two people. Other Park Rangers who see my kayak, and how well it handles and paddles are now on the hunt for one of there own. Great boat, great price, great support.
