Comments about Vasque Summit GTX Boot (Men's):

I wanted to replace my 15 year old pair of Asolos and found out that Rock Creek was the only retailer within 50 miles, so I called the local
store in Chattanooga. I got a friendly guy on the phone who said they didn't have my size
12.5 in stock, and I should come in to order them (pay up front). He said I wouldn't be charged any extra fees since they should have had them in stock, and to come into the store to pay and place the order.
Well, I went in and after the first nice gentlmen greeted me, I told him the situation thus far. He took my exact foot measurements, had me try on
      a size 12 and 13 Asolo (which didn't fit).
He then tossed me to another person (all shall remain nameless), who sold me on a lesser brand (Vasque). When I say "sold" me, I mean he
really laid it on thick, saying he had some Asolo boots, and he now wears Vasque, I should buy the size 12, and they use top grade glue, blah blah blah.
So, I bought them. However, at the counter, I realize that the guy I talked to on the phone
(he knew my name and I knew his after an introduction) was ringing me up, which meant he was getting a commision off of the sale.
I get my bag, leave the counter and look back. The guy who "sold" me on the lesser brand gave a questioning "thumbs up?", like "did you make the sale?", and I hear, quite loudly, "After all that? I should hope so!".
I didn't ask for much, I spent no more than 30 minutes of all of their time combined, and
      spent over $260.00.
I know it's all about the money and "buyer beware"; however, it only showed me that
they were all completely fake and, basically, used car salesmen (only they were "outdoor", "environmentally cool"). I don't blame them
personally, because I know they were just "trained well" by the Rock Creek
      management.
The Vasque boots are terrible and hurt my feet, but I cannot return them.
THAT SAID, I WILL NEVER SHOP AT ROCK CREEK
      AGAIN.

Comments about Vasque Summit GTX Boot (Men's):

These Chinese made boots have a wider heel than hikers are used to, as if they think wide means to fit obese people standing around in them. Heel width also makes these extra heavy in the heel. Hikers with wide forefeet have narrow heels. Being lean people with lots of miles on their feet, hikers have wider forefeet but don't have wide heels, or fat feet at all. They're just wider through the joints of the forefoot. In that consideration these are more like a Redwing or Timberland boot and definitely not a Pivetta P5 style ballet slipper snug heel width perfect for hiking in rocky terrain. An Italian name is all that is left of Italian fitment. These feel clunky by comparison. Looseness in the heel will allow the foot to rotate in the shoe making toe blisters, requiring two pairs of thick socks and/or extra padding on the insides of the heels before any long distance hiking, and they're already heavy. Halfway up the tongue is a seam where one wants none, making a big sore blister inducing lump or even two, one on each side of the arch. This accentuates heel movement inside the shoe. I hammered on the tongues over an anvil till I made them flat, no more problem there. But still that's not something you expect to have to do to new boots. I love the tight grained toughness in the Redwing leather uppers. The leather will last twenty years if beeswax is used, and the Vibram sole will last like Vibram does.

Love these boots! I upgraded from Sundowner classics that lasted 17 years. I'd definitely buy these boots again.
