What's in your pack? Backpacking gear list 3: backpacking for beginners
"For first-time backpackers, the idea can be a bit daunting. After all, hiking long hours with a heavy pack, sleeping in primitive camp sites with no facilities whatsoever, and relying only on the equipment you can carry at one time are things that you don’t really do in your everyday life! A little bit of planning can make it a lot easier to take that first big step, so we’ve prepared this gear list with your first backpacking trip in mind..."

Comments about Snow Peak GigaPower Stove, Manual:
We have both the pocket rocket and this stove. The benefit to MSR pocket rocket is that it has a built on wind guard. But then the pocket rocket is far less stable when cooking in the wind. The add-on wind guard fits around the base of the fuel bottle so it isn't taking up any additional space.

Comments about Snow Peak GigaPower Stove, Manual:
The GigaPower is probably the best ultra compact backpacking stove. It's incredibly simple, and affordable. Even if you aren't backpacking or hiking all the time, I'd still consider buying one for emergencies. During the tornadoes this spring, I actually had to use mine for a bit of cooking and coffee making because our power was out for several days. If I had any gripes about it, it would probably be that it can be unstable at times with large pots or on uneven ground. Other than that, this stove is excellent.

Comments about Snow Peak GigaPower Stove, Manual:
This is a great little canister stove. I have taken it on backpacking and camping trips, and I have been pleased every time. It also works as a great travel stove, provided you can find fuel canisters. It is very lightweight and folds up very nicely. The thing I like most is that is has FOUR points of contact with whatever is sitting on it.
