The UltraSil Tarp Poncho by Sea to Summit is an original all-in-one raincoat/tarp/pack cover/groundsheet. This is a super light weight solution for fast packing without a tent, and ideal for use as a rain poncho with an ergonomic 3-panel hood with functional and generous brim. The UltraSil Tarp Poncho is made with super lightweight and waterproof Ultra-Sil fabric, so all seams are factory taped. Designed to fully cover you and your pack in a downpour. It’s also ideal for temperate climates when a waterproof jacket would be too sweaty. Makes a great emergency shelter to have along for day trips.

The Ultra-Sil Tarp Poncho was just named in the March 2007 Backpacker Gear Guide as the “Lightest Solo Tarp”.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Tarp-Poncho:

I was surprised how small and light it is. Fortunately, I have not had to use it yet, although I have taken it with me on a couple trips. I don't even notice it is there shoved into my pack ready to protect when called upon. I only gave it 4 stars for the weight and compactness of it. I will hopefully upgrade to 5 stars once I am actually able to say I used it.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Tarp-Poncho:

I have used this great poncho on a couple of hollow-washing east Tennessee rain hikes. Nary a drop gets through and there is no sweat build up. My only not-really-complaint is that there was no choice of color when I ordered. Fortunately, I got a grey-silver one and not the sickly green in the photo!

I received this product on a Thursday and it was tested on the following Friday! The first outing was in Linville Gorge in North Carolina where we encountered not one but two Thunder / Hail Storms and I could not be happier with this Product. It kept me and my pack completly dry and provides adequate ventilation as well. I would highly recommend this product to others!

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Tarp-Poncho:

I've been lucky so far in that I haven't had to test in an extended downpour, but the size is perfect for covering a large pack, and for creating an ultralite shelter with two hiking poles. It packs amazingly small and light, but seems pretty durable so far.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Tarp-Poncho:

I walk to school five miles every morning and I *always* carry this poncho, rain or shine. It's huge, light, and of very high quality. It packs small in the excellent compression sack that comes with it. The length adjustment is vastly superior to the "snap-up" length adjustment on most ponchos. The hood, brim, neck fit, and neck adjustment is top-notch. It's the highest-quality piece of gear that I own. There are smaller and lighter ponchos (and smaller and heavier ones, too!), but this one easily offers the most coverage, durability, and useability per ounce.

Comments about Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Tarp-Poncho:

Though the nylon version pitches tighter, I am a minimalist to the core, and love saving weight. I love the options this has to set up as a shelter, and with some diligence one can set this up to brave some serious storms and wind. I have used this piece as my primary shelter on winter hikes in the smokies and have had no issues in heavy rain and high winds. Make sure you seam seal it and your good to go. Also practice setting the tarp up in your yard. The homework will make it easier and faster to set up in the field using different configurations.

I carry this tarp/poncho everytime I go out -- whether on a hike or in my kayak. I have found that all Sea to Summit products are very well-conceived and this is no exception. I wouldn't be without it.
