The long-awaited Salomon Sense trail running shoe is a low, light and fast winning machine for top runners. The Salomon S-LAB Sense was developed with Salomon's top athlete, Kilian Jornet, and has been proven through his wins at trail races around the world, including the 2011 Western States 100 and the Ultra Tour de Mont Blanc. With a 4-mm heel-to-toe drop, this shoe is designed for an experienced forefoot runner, but still has some support as you get into the long mileage. This is a serious step into the future of trail running shoe technology. The light weight, great traction, and low-slung nature of this racing shoe make it unlike anything Salomon has ever designed. The Salomon Sense will be produced in very limited quantities and we expect it to be hard to find for the first couple years. If you see your size, you're going to want to buy two now!

Just the shoe I needed for my first 50k

By Caesar

Pros

  • Light Yet Stable
  • Very nice looking

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Runner In Front Hard

Best Uses

  • Trail Race

I know you are never supposed to run a race with shoes you've never tried before, but ... I did it. This was my first 50k, 7k+ elev, I wanted a light shoe. I received them a few days before, walked with them at home, felt that the fit was good and I could "risk it". The rubber protection in front seemed to constrain my toes too much, I put them under tension to expand, not sure how much that worked. It should be made more flexible in the front, don't need to constrain toes too much to ensure fit. I don't think that is a problem with break-in, the front of the shoe doesn't budge. Bottom line, I ran my 50k and I felt great in these shoes. They were hitting in the front on steep downhills, got a couple of small blisters on my right foot, very happy. Great shoe. It remains too expensive though.

The crown jewel of trail running shoes

Pros

  • Durable
  • Fast drying
  • Light Weight

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Long distance
    • Trail racing
    • Trail running

The Salomon S-LAB Sense is may be the best trail shoe on the market. It is relatively flat (4mm drop) and is very light weight. The shoe is durable and drys very quickly when wet. The toe box is protected with a cap. I have avoided many stubbed toes from roots, rocks and stumps because of this feature. The shoe is versatile enough for short to middle distance, but will also provide a comfortable ride over long distances. I ran a 100 mile trail race in my pair and wouldn't trade them for the the world. They are expensive from a pricing stand point, but worth every penny.

    Lite weight and fast

    Pros

    • Good On Multiple Surfaces
    • Minimal Platform
    • Nimble
    • Quick Drying
    • Very lite

    Cons

    • Snug toe box

    Best Uses

    • Trail running

I am normally a barefoot runner, I was looking for a new shoe to add to my tools for when my feet are tired but I would still like to get out on the trail. I have a hard time picking shoes because the toe box on most shoes doesnt fit me well, they always tend to be too snug. I picked up the S-Lab Sense and was impressed instantly. It is a great fitting shoe and is built on a minimal platform that easily alows me to keep my barefoot form but adds just a little cushin for tired feet. I have taken these shoes through dry rocky trails, trails covered in mud, and through ankle high streams and nothing phases them, they take it on almost as if i was barefoot. Salomon got it right with this pair of shoes. My only issue with them is initially they were just a little snug in the toe box but after just one run they loosened up and now they fit great.
