The Orbit Lamp by Black Diamond is a super lightweight, environmentally friendly lamp/lantern for all those awesome things you do outside... in the dark.  Pocket sized and collapsible, the Orbit Lamp is perfect for trekking and backpacking trips where weight is the most important aspect.  A six foot radius of light eminates from this tiny lamp and can be adjusted with an actual dimming switch.  The Orbit can be attached to a tree, tent or stick and funs on 4 AAA batteries that can be recharged with a specific NRG2 Rechargeable Battery Kit.

Comments about Black Diamond Orbit Lamp:

Have tried about every mini lantern out there, this is the best. It just replaced another brand which had terrible shadows and an unreliable switch...the Orbit has NONE of these problems, the light is diffuse, no shadows from the lantern globe itself, and construction is solid. Perfect for reading in a tent, kitchen area cleanup, and even had enough power to illuminate a late night tent setup. The top slides up and down, which exposes the switch. It's really more of a control button, since it also controls dimming. It stands nicely on little rubber cushions, or hangs from a clever folding, two piece hook.
BDs specs say it'll run 10 hrs on high with AAAs, 24 hrs on low, and I've gotten at least that much with mine.
Sure, you don't need a lantern, but at just over 4 oz. with 4 lithium AAAs (uses any kind of AAA, lithiums just lighter and better in my Colorado cold), it's barely a problem to pack and can really "brighten" up a late night in camp.
This is a great piece of gear; BD could make it perfect if:
Turned off at any setting, it always turns on at the brightest setting. Overall, that's proven ok, but I would prefer it to "remember" it's last setting. The top is also a bit hard to "unstick" from it's open or closed position, but on the other hand it's solid once in place. And it sure would be easier on my battery supply if it used standard AAs, not AAAs, which I don't really keep around for anything else.(Note: There's an optional NRG2 rechargeable battery module available, but shops here don't have them yet)
The Orbit is the little sister of the Apollo, which is a better choice for larger groups and if weight is not an issue.
This is probably my favorite piece of recently purchased gear, it's truly worth it's price and weight. Highly Recommended, Best in Class.
