The Attache Screw-Lock Carabiner by Petzl is designed to be used primarily for belaying.  With a pear shape, it has plenty of room for clipping into the entire harness (leg loops and upper belt), as well as a key lock system that provides a snag free interaction.  If you aren't using it to belay it is a great biner for anchors as well, because since the nose has no indention, it is easy to get in and out of the bulk of webbing used in most belay systems.

With the screw-lock feature, you can tell if you have locked the biner with its "red your dead" line that stands out when you look down.  Safe and easy to use, this is the biner to get if you are looking for a locking, belay biner.

Comments about Petzl Attache Screw Lock Carabiner:

This is it: a compact, keylock, HMS-style carabiner with a fat, round cross-section for belaying and munter descents. The screwgate is a seriously bombproof design; in fact, Petzl has started using this same lock in some other designs, including the Locker and the Am'D.

I use these for caving, primarily as attachment points at the ends of my cow's tails. The keylock nose is important here, since nothing is much worse than trying to unclip a hook-style carabiner from an anchor or hanger at rebelay loops. Many carabiners degrade rapidly when subjected to mud, grip and moisture with every use -- I've had to retire many carabiners early in their lifespans because I could no longer manipulate the locking mechanism -- but these stand up to whatever abuse you shell out. Petzl cut their teeth on the deep, unforgiving caves of the Alps, so you know their gear can handle whatever you dish out.

If you're using a Petzl Stop or Petzl Simple for descending, this is absolutely the carabiner you SHOULD be using to attach your descender to your harness, as specified in Petzl's literature; the round cross-section prevents the front plate from levering open, no matter how hard you try.

Comments about Petzl Attache Screw Lock Carabiner:

Really nice, basic, simple, locking 'biner. Slightly smaller size is lightweight and doesn't take up too much space on the harness. Works great with a munter. I've often wished these had a slightly bigger capacity for clipping multiple ropes/anchors, but then of course I wouldn't be commenting on their compactness. Has really grippy texturing on the screw.
