The Petzl AM'D Ball Lock is an auto-locking carabiner, great for multi-purpose use when extra security is desired. Three quick and simple motions are required for the gate to open, which greatly increases the level of safety offered by this carabiner. It is very unlikely that the gate could be unlocked and opened unintentionally by random motion during use. A medium sized frame and asymmetric shape give the Am'D Ball Lock exceptional strength and versatility.
The Keylock anti-snag gate:
All Petzl carabiners are fitted with the patented anti-snag Keylock concept, which makes it very easy to clip. The Keylock is a notch-free gate closing system. It eliminates the need for a notch on the nose of the carabiner, which can snag on ropes, webbing and bolt hangers.

The color of the biner was the only problem I had with it. It is not black! It is the purple color that the William carabiners with the ball lock mechanism also come in.
