We took our ambassadors' favorite shorts and honed ‘em even more for core long-distance running. The updated Strider Pro Shorts carry what you need for a full day of mountain running, thanks to four new, overlapping, stretchy-mesh back hip pockets (two on each side). The pockets lie flat and won't flap when empty, but expand generously to hold everything from energy gels to a Houdini Jacket. A fast-drying 50-denier 100% polyester (50% recycled) micro dobby forms the body of these sleek running shorts, while the thigh panels use a non-chafing 100% polyester Air Flow mesh and the pockets use a 4.28-oz 91% nylon/9% spandex mesh. Side splits promote airflow, brushed elastic lines the waistband and a lightweight open-knit 100% polyester crepe liner further enhances breathability. A card-sized center-back pocket closes with a zipper, and the now-burlier drawcord's new routing design allows for internal or external tying. With a reflective logo on the left hem and a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

      Best Trail Running Shorts -period!-

I'm always on a quest to find great trail running shorts. I prefer a 4 to 5-inch inseam (these are 5-inch), since I'm not into the basketball short look. The side pockets easily hold 4 gels each and whoever designed these shorts should get an award for those pockets. ZERO bounce on technical trails with the pockets holding 4 to 5 gels each. And, the flap on the top of the pocket ensures they will NOT come out of the short. Brilliant! My only complaint is availability of these shorts. Patagonia seems to always not produce enough of their running shorts, at least in Medium--all the close-outs are in other sizes. My only hope is that Patagonnia doesn't discontinue this short. They've done this with other great running shorts. Time will tell...

This is the best running short on the market, hands down. The hip pockets are 4-way stretch so they actually compress the gels, jacket, gloves, hat, or whatever else you are throwing in there to your body. They are virtually bounce-free. I have had 6 gels in each pocket and not felt like I was about to lose them! The liner is seam-free and very compressive/supportive, dries fast and doesn't get rough over time. The short is very lightweight and a great match for the hot/humid south as well as the drier climates of out west.

great short for a good long run! the hip pockets hold 2 gels each with no bouncing...and then you have the zipper pocket in the rear for some more nutrition! length and cut is perfect...short enough to allow unrestricted freedom of movement, but long enough so that you dont feel "exposed"!

Patagonia nailed it with these shorts. They are light, dry quickly and are extremely comfortable. The shorter length has a nice fast feel but still provides enough coverage for heading to the grocery store post-run without showing too much skin. With the addition of a zip pocket for valuables and side pockets for gels or other items, this is an ideal short for anything from a quick lunchtime run to a 100 mile race. For years I have waited for a light, shorter, comfortable running short with adequate pockets for long ultras and it is finally here.

I love so many features of these shorts- the pockets on each side to store gels-the rear pocket that stores my ipod during a run, the breathable mesh. These shorts are near perfect. The only problem I had with these shorts was their length. I have come to appreciate and prefer a longer running short. I absolutely found the perfect short with the Pro Striders Patagonia sibling the Nine Trails Shorts with the 8 inch inseam. The short length is the only thing that kept the Pro Strider from being perfect...

                    Best Uses

                    • Long runs

The two side pockets are perfect to carry an energy gel or two on long runs. You can't feel what is in there while running.

I like the cut and the color (for the blue model).
