These shorts are good for snorkeling. Seriously, once I was on Citico Creek snorkeling with a group of wilderness advocates. We were learning from the Cherokee National Forest's main biologists about why this area is so important. It was really, really cold and even though we had wetsuits I dug through my car and wore everything I could find under the suit. I had a Patagonia R1 jacket, wool undershirt, wool underpants and these wonderful shorts.
We snorkled quite a bit, although I had to stop frequently and warm up in the sun. We got to see the endangered darter fish in their mating colors. We also saw a couple gar that were amazingly far upstream for their size. They must have been eating the darters. Anyways, afterward we got out and headed back home to Chattanooga while my shorts (still wearing them) dried out and started to look nice again. I did change my shirt, but by the time we got back to town I went out to eat in the shorts. They looked great.
I guess my point is, you don't even know what these shorts are useful for yet. Just get a couple pair.
