Capilene 1 Silkweight Stretch Crew (Men's)
Product Number: 26741
The Men's Capilene 1 Silkweight Stretch Crew by Patagonia wicks moisture to keep you dry and cool in hot conditions, and provides 50+ UPF sun protection.
As vital as board shorts and ice on a Baja surf trip, this quick-to-wick, quick-to dry tee is Patagonia's stretchiest baselayer. Made to keep you cool, dry and moving freely during active pursuits, it has a 5.1-oz 84% polyester/16% spandex blend with Gladiodor odor control and 50+ UPF sun protection. The fabric rests lightly on the skin, allows a cooling airflow, and wicks perspiration. Offset seams feel smooth under pack straps, and reflective logos on the chest and center-back add visibility to predawn runs.

Comments about Patagonia Capilene 1 Silkweight Stretch Crew (Men's):
This is Patagonia's lightest-weight base layer, with a slim fit to wick moisture effectively and enough stretch that it doesn't feel restrictive.
In the Southeast, a heavier base layer like Capilene 2 or Capilene 3 is just too much if I'm hiking, and I've found myself hiking atop snow in nothing but a Cap 2 base layer before! With the Capilene 1, it's thin enough that I don't need to strip down to one layer, and it wicks moisture fast enough that I'm not chilled by my own sweat.
These are also great for running in cold weather if you like long sleeves to keep your arms warm. It's a little tight to wear casually by itself, but I don't buy base layers to wear with a pair of jeans!
I know everyone seems to be in love with Merino wool these days, but I'll take a good Capilene base layer any day over merino. It's never itchy, it dries super fast and it takes up absolutely no space in a pack.
Pros
- Comfortable
- Light
- Wicking
Cons
Best Uses
- Baselayer
Comments about Patagonia Capilene 1 Silkweight Stretch Crew (Men's):
This is a great next-to-skin piece for your layering system. Good for most any sport, it's going to wick away moisture and not hold sweat. Very basic and great colors. This is a base layer, designed to fit close to the skin (all the better for wicking the moisture off said skin) so don't buy it too small if you haven't already tried one on in person.
Pros
- Light Weight
Cons
- Too tight fitting
Best Uses
- Trim men with no stomach
Comments about Patagonia Capilene 1 Silkweight Stretch Crew (Men's):
The old style Patagonia shirts where more loose fitting - like a regualar shirt. These are tight fitting for those with a perfect 6 pack ab stomach.
