The Water Bottle Parka by Outdoor Research is an insulated bottle carrier that lets you transport hot or cold liquids into the backcountry. It weighs much less than a thermos, but offers similar performance. A reinforced nylon strap with a hook and loop closure allows it to attach to any pack and an updated design fits most modern day water bottles.

Motorcycle traveler: freeze water in stainless steel waterbottle night before & place inside insulated parka. Ice cold water will last 6-8 hours next day in hot saddlebag.

Comments about Outdoor Research Water Bottle Parka:

Long but worth reading! Buy once, buy right.I recently purchased three of the #1 style (1 liter) for a hiking/backpacking trip to the Vermillion Cliffs/Escalante Staircase and The Wave wilderness area. These "parkas" are of excellant construction and are very lightweight. On a 15 mile hike I froze one 2 liter bottles and refrigerated the third in preperation for the outing. The refrigerated stayed nicely chilled until consumed. I didnt open the frozen leter parka until I was on my way out of the area and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was still 98% frozen solid. I had to use what was left from the chilled bottle to help melt the contents. Having something ice cold to drink after being out in the AZ/UT desert for 12 hours is truly a (insert credit card name) moment! I am a professional photographer. Upon receipt I also realized that a number of my DSLR lens would fit nicely into these cases for travel to and from destination etc. The #1 accomodated my Nikon 200mm f/4 micro perfectly. I have an after-market lens foot on my 70-200 f/3.8 which prevented it from fitting that lens. I was also able to combine my ballhead with one of my short lenses for travel priposes as well. I just ordered 3 more..... 2 .5 liter size to round out the line-up. There is a substantial amount of velcro (wrap-around, tow-sided tongue to ensure that the parkas stay where you atach them. While I trust the holding power of the substantial amount of velcro I will likely go ahead and sew the loops closed and reinforce with Kevlar thread. I'm a fanatic about not losing expensive gear (or water). [...]. Bottom line is that The Outdoor Research bottle parkas and Rock Creek get an A+, top of the line rating from me. I've been an avid backpacker, hiker, paddler, camper, scrambler, diver, traveler for over 40 years. The parkas are headed to Ecuador with me in three weeks.
