Comments about Osprey Kestrel 32 Backpack:

I was originally looking for the 38L but nobody stocked it. After looking at several options I decided the Kestrel 32 would be my daypack. After several cold weather day hikes, I'm very pleased. The Kestrel is comfortable, easily adjusts to put weight on your hips and is made of quality materials.
The side mesh pockets will hold a 1L Nalgene but I found that a 1L Dasani bottle works great. You can push it up from the bottom to get it out while wearing the pack. To put it back, use a finger to open the pocket and the bottle slides right back in. I just had elbow surgery and was able to do this so it's not difficult!
The only negative I have found is that it is hard to access the hip belt pockets while wearing the pack. Just remember it's a day pack. Small items like chap stick or a granola bar are doable but forget getting an IPhone w/Otter box in and out while wearing the pack.
As for the size, I have been carrying 3L of water (Bottles), extra Merino pull over, wind proof pullover, extra beanie, merino gloves, first aide/ emergency kit, Jet Boil Java stove and lunch. The front pocket and hip pockets were still empty. The small pocket on top is a mesh bag hanging inside the pack. Its great for a sandwich, snacks, keys, headlamp and other misc. items.
This is a great pack overall. I especially like the higher weight rating than most day packs. It can handle my cave gear or be stuffed for a minimalist overnighter.

Ack! Looks like our size chart smooshed itself down to illegible levels. That chart doesn't specify torso length, however, just the specs of the pack itself. Those specs are: Size S/M 20" x 12" x 12" & Size M/L 22" x 12" x 12" ...if you haven't had a torso fit, basically, if you're taller than average height, you want the large, and if you're shorter you want the small.
