Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Backpack (Men's):

Used this product on a 6 day backpack in U.S Southwest canyon country. Lots of scrambling, sliding on sandstone and slickrock. Carried ~50lb comfortably with no sway. Pack is easy to fit, comfortable from the start. The suspension puts you in a good hiking position and distributes weight so that it is not bearing down solely on the hipbones but around the circumference pelvic bone/sacrum. Difficult to explain but easy to wear.

Pack layout was simple, straightforward. Outer mesh pocket is nicely done. Two-pocket lid also very handy. Two mesh pockets for water or other items are well laid out and are built so that one can easily reach for and replace a water bottle without stopping or asking for assistance. After a week, though, I am a little concerned that the mesh in these areas may not retain is shape and elasticity over the long haul, as they are already losing their shape a bit.

Another issue concerns the main clips securing the lid to the pack and which hold the pack "together" vertically. They are smallish, in my view. One seemed to lose it's shape under tension and was difficult to unclip because of that. I'm not sure if the clip was defective at purchase, but the problem was a nagging - though minor - concern over the trip.

Finally, the pack packs larger than some &) liter packs I looked at, and carried much more easily, with better comfort and stability , than other slightly larger packs.

Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase and - at this juncture - would buy this pack again. By far the most comfortable pack I've owned.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Backpack (Men's):

I intend on using this pack for my thru-hike of the AT.

Beautiful lines on this backpack underscore its thoughtful engineering. I am actively searching for a negative criticism but I'm truly without one.

Durable material, plentiful storage space, and blissful adjustable comfort at every contact point make this the perfect pack for days-weeks-months long treks, it's really the pack to own.

I am a rather stocky guy at 5'9" 225lbs. and have no problem adjusting this comfortably to my wide chest, and thick waist.

The hydration port is easy to use and maintain, and the pack is set up logically for easy packing/unpacking.

I would buy this pack again!

I absolutely love this backpack - my 3rd Osprey backpack to date, love this company!! Their design and quality is amazing. The fit is more customized with this pack as well coming with movable shoulder straps for a more custom fit. The ventilated mesh backpanel is superb, helping to better distribute the pack weight while keeping the sweat away.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Backpack (Men's):

I've owned the original Atmos 50 for several years, and was surprised to hear that Osprey was revising both the Atmos 50 and Atmos 65. What could they possibly improve? With a weeklong backpacking trip on the horizon, and the heinous prospect of carrying dog food along with 7 days of my own grub, I decided to take the plunge on the "new and improved" Atmos 65.

Let me be the first to admit that my suspicions were unfounded. How did Osprey manage this? The updated pack is significantly lighter -- the 2012 Atmos 65 only weighs a couple of ounces more than last year's Atmos 50! -- but the fabrics used feel just as tough as the previous model, and none of the features have been compromised in the name of going ultralight. They've also improved the padding on the waist belt and shoulder straps.

This is THE pack to have, and I can't recommend it more highly. If I could choose six stars, I would. The suspension is efficient and transfers the load beautifully; unlike many lightweight backpacks, you can actually load this one up to the top without setting aside $ for future chiropractor visits.

I pack pretty light when I'm on the trail, but I started out with 38 pounds in this bad boy for the aforementioned trip, and it felt like 25... all from a backpacking pack that weighs 3.5 or 4 pounds, depending on the frame size.

What's not to like? The side pockets fit my water bottles easily, and my pocket camera fits in the hip pockets. The compression straps are well-placed and effective. The sleeping bag compartment is MAMMOTH; I easily carried a +15F bag, 1" Therm-A-Rest and silk liner in there at once, smooshed inside a lightweight dry bag.

Multiple outer pockets provide several options for storing potentially-wet items like crossing shoes, rain jacket, pack cover and water filter. The pack rides very comfortably, the load lifters are perfectly-placed and this thing just LOOKS cool (mine is "oxide red")...

If you were on the fence about Osprey's original, award-winning Atmos series packs, it's time to man up (or woman up, although you'll want an Aura 65) and pick one of these up. Seriously. This is THE best backpacking pack on the market right now.

The medium frame is 4 pounds, 6 ounces. Add two ounces for the large, or subtract two for the small!
