Nemo's new Astro Insulated sleeping pad and pillowtop: lightweight, comfortable and warm pad, giving you the best in backcountry comfort, plus a washable cover for easy cleaning. Many miles from the hum and buzz of workaday life, the last thing you want to disturb your deep sleep is a pesky root or a fistful of gravel. Forget your typical inch-thick backcountry pad, Astro™ is a full 2.5" thick. Lateral baffles make the pad feel wider and smoother, and 75D polyester fabric resists puncture while keeping the weight down. Use the integrated valve for inflation, or attach the optional ultralight Disco™ Pad Pump for a speedy setup. Astro™ pads include a stuff sack, compression strap, and repair patches. Use Astro™ Air in combination with the Pillowtop™ when comfort is a priority. The removable layer of comfort foam nested in a washable microsuede cover adds extra insulation while still allowing easy access to the inflation/deflation valve.

Comments about Nemo Tents Astro Insulated & Pillowtop 1P:

Bought it as a lightweight option for the climbing arsenal. Works great, especially with the foam pad option for car camping. Has negated ever needing a big plush pad. Wish the foam was a little thicker, but it is good as is. Better than most comfort pads.

Comments about Nemo Tents Astro Insulated & Pillowtop 1P:

I am a sort of hobo, and whether getting my nature on or passing out drunk at some festering punk house, I always feel much better the next day if I've had a good night's sleep. This pad is the schyt. It has kept me warm and well-cushioned at night everywhere from the Rocky Mountain wilderness to a train yard in wintry Nebraska, to some house with too many people and even more dogs and no heat.

It packs down small, so I can easily carry it day-to-day in my old Gregory Day and a Half pack that I live out of. It's light too. The pillowtop is definitely comfy, and while it doubles the packsize and weight of your pad, I would say it's well-worth the upgrade in comfort, except for missions where size and weight are SERIOUS issues. But in those circumstances, using just the inner mattress, you'll still have a way comfortable pad that weighs very little and packs even little-er.

The pillowtop is soft and has that microfibre/plush feel to it. Definitely a more inviting surface than some petro-rubbery thing that squeeks when you move around on it. If there is a drawback to the pillowtop then, it is just that this fabric is more apt to pick up things like dirt or nasty punk house dog hair. But it does brush off pretty easily.

If there is any drawback to this pad it is with me, and not the pad itself. Being 6'3 and having a sorta muscular/shouldery build, I can't imagine it being ANY smaller and still being worth the bucks. That being said, I still sleep better than on any other single-person width pad I've laid on. If you are of more average proportions, this thing is going to be AWESOME.

In the end, this is the type of equipment that actually gets me to be out and nomadic even more, and that's really the only stuff worth buying.
