What's in your pack? Backpacking gear list 3: backpacking for beginners
"For first-time backpackers, the idea can be a bit daunting. After all, hiking long hours with a heavy pack, sleeping in primitive camp sites with no facilities whatsoever, and relying only on the equipment you can carry at one time are things that you don’t really do in your everyday life! A little bit of planning can make it a lot easier to take that first big step, so we’ve prepared this gear list with your first backpacking trip in mind..."

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Drifter 2 Tent 2011 (2 Person):

I used this tent up in the Pemigewasset wilderness area of the white mountains on a 5 day backpacking trip and it worked flawlessly. Very easy to setup, waterproof fly, minimal condensation, no issues with wind even with a 25 mph wind one night. The only downside is that it's very narrow and if there are two guys in it their shoulders are basically going to be touching all night long. It's fine for tall people, I'm 6'1" but for two average width guys it's going to be a little cramped. For the price it's a fantastic value and I doubt there's anything comparable for under 200. The weight is so-so but good for something in this price range. The tent is good quality although I can't yet comment on durability.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Drifter 2 Tent 2011 (2 Person):

Great tent plenty of space for two people or one person sleeping with your gear. Took it out for a river trip in The panhandle of Florida where it got down to the mid 20's slept great very little condensation inside and all of that was one the fly. This tent packs down pretty good and is pretty easy to set up even in the dark. Overall great tent and a good price.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Drifter 2 Tent 2011 (2 Person):

This tent is a great deal for the money. Sets up quickly, is sturdy, and isn't all that heavy. When sitting up it can be a little crowded. If you see yourself spending a lot of time in your tent consider something with a brow pole. All in all worth the money.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Drifter 2 Tent 2011 (2 Person):

the two door design with the vestibules is the ideal config. for sharing a tent. this tent is set up for head to foot sleeping as it is narrow, our sleeping pads were touching in the tent so once in a while my knees were poking my friends ribs. we were two females avg size, so two average men wouldn't cut it, or two avg size couch potato kids. the gear loft on the top is a great tool for your headlamps and bear spray, it might be able to hold one liter of water. there are two very small pouches on diagonal corners of the tent, they won't hold more than an ipod or wallet.
it is easy up, and i loved not having to thread any poles through pockets, even the center clips.
it is a little heavy for packing but for the price was the lightest i could find.
i got it on sale with a free footprint and wouldn't be happy at full price.
