Comments about Marmot Scree Pant - Long 2011 (Men's):

I use these pants for hiking in the mountains. These pants are well breathable and well made. Do not get wet, very soft and comfortable. The materyal very soft but to tear it will be very very difficult. So for hiking and even mountain climbing will be very helpful.

Comments about Marmot Scree Pant - Long 2011 (Men's):

Getting the right size was tricky. I wear size 36 waist, 34 length. Using the Marmot size chart I first ordered a Large (34"-36")Long (34 1/2"). The length was way too long. I returned them for a Large Regular (32 1/2") and they fit perfectly.

Comments about Marmot Scree Pant - Long 2011 (Men's):

I now own two pairs of these and tell everyone I know to go out and buy a pair. It took me many years to find a breathable, weather resistant, durable, and comfortable pair of hiking pants that I could wear in the fall, winter, and spring. That's a tall order, but they excell in everything from 70 degrees to below freezing (with proper layers underneath). They breathe so well, I haven't wet out my base layers yet even during strenuous snowshoeing. They are so long that I've skipped my gaiters a time or two on shorter hikes. Just buy a pair of Scree Pants. You will love them as much as I do!

Comments about Marmot Scree Pant - Long 2011 (Men's):

Bought a L - Long size, i'm 6'4" tall and 220 lbs. Pants are comfortable, a little tight but I think that's the way they're supposed to fit and I could stand to lose a few lbs. Hiked Old Ragg in Virginia the other day in these and they worked out great, had a couple of brushes against trees and rocks and was worried I'd at least done some surface damage in the knees but they look perfect still. These were recommended by the outfit that I chose to lead me on a mountaineering course later this year.

Comments about Scree Pant - Long 2011 (Men's):

I ended up buying 4 pairs of the Scree pants in 3 different colors (2 in black because of its ubiquity). I have worn these pants all over the world in a variety of conditions. They are light, packable, comfortable, durable, versatile, and reasonably attractive. I have used them for hiking, hunting, golfing, fishing, traveling by car, train and plane, as well as for casual wear, work, and pretty much any activity I was engaged in other than workouts at the gym, on the bike, running, etc., where I used more specialized clothing. For the most part the pockets are great, although I would prefer to have two rear pockets as opposed to just one on the right rear, and I would also like two lower pockets on the legs below the upper hand pockets instead of just one on the right leg. The zippers, gussets and elastic at the ankles are all very nice and make the pant much more versatile. In the heat in Italy I found myself pulling the pant legs up below my knees, tightening the elastic, and turning the pants into knickers, which were considerably cooler. When I have worn larger boots, the ankle zips could be opened and the gussets allowed the pants to expand but still cover the boots. The material is fairly thin and very elastic in every direction so ones legs are not restricted at all in movement. The material breathes well and feels good against the skin. It is cool in the heat and relatively warm in the cold, especially with long underwear. The material seems to be very durable, but it will snag on thorns or other similar items (which limits the usefulness for hunting in some conditions) unlike some fleeces, canvas, denim or other stiffer and more snag resistant fabrics which are very durable but not nearly as comfortable over a wide variety of uses. The abrasion resistance of the material is good. The pants repel water very well and dry quickly when wet. Unlike cotton or wool, the fabric is subject to melting near flames or embers, so stay back from fires when wearing these, just as with other petroleum based fiber clothing. The pants are perfect for long travels where one needs to pack light. They are light and compact, do not wrinkle, are easily laundered (even in a sink or bath tub), do not tend to get too smelly, and look very good in most situations. You can wear the pants in places that jeans would not be allowed. In that regard, Marmot should take its name off the right pant leg and put it underneath the belt on the waist where it does not cheapen the look of the pants for wearing in a less casual atmosphere. The pockets are very nice (even though I would like to see two more of them, as I stated above), especially with the zippers that secure the contents very well. The security of the items in the pockets is very important for traveling or during vigorous activity where items could be lost or stolen. I am 6'2" tall with a fairly long inseam for a size large (I usually get a 34" inseam in jeans). I thought I might need a long in these pants until I read some reviews and called Marmot customer service. On the advice of others I got the regular length, and it is a perfect fit for me. The long length must be for really long legged people or those with normal length legs who are very thin and therefore take a smaller waist size. I have tried other brands and have friends who bought similar pants made by some of the other top manufacturers, but the Marmot Scree pants are the best I have found. They were recommended to me by a good friend who said that most of his friends in Aspen have started wearing Screes and now leave their jeans in the closet. I can see why. My jeans have seen very little use since I got my Screes. I give them the highest recommendation, with my only suggested improvement in the construction being the addition of the 2 pockets I described. I also would like to see some more colors that would fit into a variety of conditions, like dark brown, khaki tan and navy blue. Bright red, dirty tan/brown, and some of the other funky colors that Marmot has offered in the Screes may be fine for some outdoor activities, but they look ugly around town and when traveling with a limited wardrobe. I have the black, olive, and battleship gray colors (I have forgotten what Marmot calls the olive and gray colors, but those names are not very descriptive) and those three colors are very nice although limited. Given a choice I would have black, navy, dark brown and olive which would work for almost any informal occasion and be a great pants wardrobe for any extended travel (even though I would never take more than 3 pairs and usually only 2 at a time). Without the Marmot name on the pant legs and in a standard color, one could even get away with wearing the pants to functions where a jacket and tie were required dress. These are great pants that could be made a little more functional and attractive without a lot of effort. Even so, I highly recommend them.

Comments about Marmot Scree Pant - Long 2011 (Men's):

I caught my crampons on these pants about three times above my gators. Each time I thought for sure I had ripped them. I ended up with only one extremely small puncture that was barely noticeable. My skin was thankful.
