The Marmot PreCip Jacket is an extremely lightweight waterproof/breathable shell. The PreCip is fully featured with pitzips, core venting and everything else you'd expect from a $400 piece, yet it weighs half as much and costs only a fraction.

Made with a microporous polyurethane that is impregnated with silicon dioxide particles. These particles create small, numerous, very consistent holes that allow the barrier to pass small water vapor molecules but not the bigger liquid ones. This keeps the rain out while letting your sweat vapor work its way outside, away from your body, to keep you dry from the inside as well as from the outside.

Also, the PreCip Jacket is highly compressible - perfect for those outings when you don't expect it to rain but going without rain gear would be too risky.

The Rock/Creek guide to Marmot rain jackets
"I’ll be the first to admit it: it can be a bit confusing to shop for rain jackets. It seems every manufacturer has their own proprietary waterproofing technology, a couple of trademarked names, and there must be hundreds of different rain jackets on the market! Since Marmot makes our best-selling line of rain jackets, let’s start by focusing there… but things are still a little tricky..."

What's in your pack? Backpacking gear list 3: backpacking for beginners
"For first-time backpackers, the idea can be a bit daunting. After all, hiking long hours with a heavy pack, sleeping in primitive camp sites with no facilities whatsoever, and relying only on the equipment you can carry at one time are things that you don’t really do in your everyday life! A little bit of planning can make it a lot easier to take that first big step, so we’ve prepared this gear list with your first backpacking trip in mind..."

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's):

So I received this jacket just in time for a business trip to London. Just so happens that they've (apparently) been having a sunnier than normal summer, but the week I was there was all wet/rainy/foggy. PreCip Jacket to the rescue! I had one full day in London to explore, so I wrapped myself in the Rusted Orange PreCip and went on my merry way. Couldn't have been happier with the level of dryness from my waist up (my pants/feet were drenched, but that's my own fault). This jacket performed better than I could have asked for and would highly recommend this to anyone looking for gnarly waterproof-ness (that's an actual term, right?). I live in NY, so I can see this jacket being very useful here as well.

I'm 6'4", 205lbs and this jacket fits me to perfection. I tried the Patagonia Torrentshell and it was just way too short in every aspect of the jacket, so this PreCip is the obvious winner in my book. Thanks Marmot! (And Rock/Creek!)

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's):

I bought the PreCip Jacket needing a waterproof lightweight garment to withstand Montreal's rain and occasionnal automn snow.
Being 5'9'' and 130 lbs led me to choosing a Medium sized jacket, as I was planning on wearing something heavier and warmer underneath. Even if the lower portion of the jacket seems a little wide at times, the sleeves lenght and shoulder width are perfect.
Good looking, durable, lightweight, good price...

as luck would have it after being soaked to the skin and finally discovering the jacket I was looking for, it hasn't rained much since. What rain I have seen I have only seen - haven't felt, haven't soaked to the skin. This included a tailgate in the rain at a recent NFL game. I am well pleased.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's):

The Marmot Precip is a full-featured waterproof jacket that is lightweight to pack for either the back country or international touring and also serves well as a "daily driver" for outside activities where rain protection is desired.

Pit Zips allow maximum control of desired ventilation, hood rolls and stows compactly beneath collar, sleeve closures allow for snug adjustment at wrists, pockets are deep with convenient access. Overall, well-fitting and stylish. I'm 6 Ft tall and 210 lbs with long arms- the X-Large size fits comfortably!

The Marmot Precip jacket has all the features I was looking for when shopping for light-weight, breathable rain gear.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's):

Excellent product, so far. Amazingly warm and dry for its weight. You can hardly tell you are wearing it. Very good, adjustable hood. Excellent sleeve length, and they don't ride up.
Haven't worked hard in it yet to evaluate breathing, but pitzips do vent off excess warmth nicely. It will get heavy use in the spring rains. Superb value for money. Marmot rocks.

This is the jacket that goes with me when I don't know what I'm getting into. Whether it's unpredictable weather conditions or an undetermined length of time, the Precip is the jacket that I know will get me through the worst of times. It was with me during the Subaru Primal Quest 10-day adventure race in the Pacific Northwest and is still with me today, looking not much different than the day I bought it.

                        A:

It's a RELATIVELY generous cut, but I think you're still better off with the Large. You're right on the uppermost extreme for the Medium in terms of chest & neck measurements, and the Large is for a 34-36" waist. With a shell, you typically need to be able to throw it on atop a fleece or similar midlayer if it's raining, so it's always better to err on the side of extra room!
