The Marmot PreCip Jacket is an extremely lightweight waterproof/breathable shell. The PreCip is fully featured with pitzips, core venting and everything else you'd expect from a $400 piece, yet it weighs half as much and costs only a fraction.
Made with a microporous polyurethane that is impregnated with silicon dioxide particles. These particles create small, numerous, very consistent holes that allow the barrier to pass small water vapor molecules but not the bigger liquid ones. This keeps the rain out while letting your sweat vapor work its way outside, away from your body, to keep you dry from the inside as well as from the outside.
Also, the PreCip Jacket is highly compressible - perfect for those outings when you don't expect it to rain but going without rain gear would be too risky.

The Rock/Creek guide to Marmot rain jackets
"I’ll be the first to admit it: it can be a bit confusing to shop for rain jackets. It seems every manufacturer has their own proprietary waterproofing technology, a couple of trademarked names, and there must be hundreds of different rain jackets on the market! Since Marmot makes our best-selling line of rain jackets, let’s start by focusing there… but things are still a little tricky..."

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's) - 2008:
The Marmot Precip is a full-featured waterproof jacket that is lightweight to pack for either the back country or international touring and also serves well as a "daily driver" for outside activities where rain protection is desired.
Pit Zips allow maximum control of desired ventilation, hood rolls and stows compactly beneath collar, sleeve closures allow for snug adjustment at wrists, pockets are deep with convenient access. Overall, well-fitting and stylish. I'm 6 Ft tall and 210 lbs with long arms- the X-Large size fits comfortably!
The Marmot Precip jacket has all the features I was looking for when shopping for light-weight, breathable rain gear.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's) - 2008:
Excellent product, so far. Amazingly warm and dry for its weight. You can hardly tell you are wearing it. Very good, adjustable hood. Excellent sleeve length, and they don't ride up.
Haven't worked hard in it yet to evaluate breathing, but pitzips do vent off excess warmth nicely. It will get heavy use in the spring rains. Superb value for money. Marmot rocks.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's) - 2008:
This is the jacket that goes with me when I don't know what I'm getting into. Whether it's unpredictable weather conditions or an undetermined length of time, the Precip is the jacket that I know will get me through the worst of times. It was with me during the Subaru Primal Quest 10-day adventure race in the Pacific Northwest and is still with me today, looking not much different than the day I bought it.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's) - 2008:
Light weight and easily stows as a very small unit. Pitzips make it comfortable to wear even in warm weather. The hood rolls up handily and is out of the way but not quite as neatly as I think it could/should be. This is a great piece of rain gear for the tropics and also has room to layer underneath when it gets cooler.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's) - 2008:
This spring has been excessively wet in the mid-Atlantic. Were it not for the PreCip jacket and the abysmal real estate market, I would move to Seattle for the drier climate. This jacket is extremely light, amazingly water repellent. Construction (seams, zippers, vents, liner, hood) is flawless. From hiking the Appalachian Trail to walking the dog, it's a fine thing to possess. Seriously.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's) - 2008:
I like elastic cuffs rather than velcro but not a big problem, as I suspect that most people like the adjustable ability of velcro. Also, I wish that the hood had a stowable zippered compartment but I understand that would add weight. Overall the jacket is about the best weather protection I have ever used in that price range. Highly recommended!

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's) - 2008:
I’m a tall, lean (6’ 7” – 220 lbs) rower that was looking for a waterproof jacket that I can use when I go out rowing. Typically jackets either have sleeves that are too short, or the sleeves are long enough, but the chest size is enormous. This jacket fits me perfectly, and is very good for putting on base layer clothing for cold days. If it’s a hot day, the jacket is light and breaths well so that I can stay dry in a Florida-like climate. I guess the only flaw I can find is that the pockets sit a little high, which may be a result of my size. I definitely recommend this jacket to any athlete looking to keep out the rain.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Jacket (Men's) - 2008:
This is one of the most versatile jackets you can have amongst your outdoor gear. The jacket is lightweight and fits perfectly. The hood is just the right size and does not flap around. I can wear this when it gets rainy/windy on a hike or when I kayak this keeps me nice and dry. The construction of the jacket is also really high quality and the zippers dont get stuck.
