The Aegis Jacket by Marmot is a waterproof, breathable jacket that protects you from summer downpours while offering you a lightweight rain coat.  With the MemBrain Strata laminate, the jacket does not have to have a lining nor 3-layer construction like other laminates, eliminating that clammy feel you get from other inner layers.

DriClime lined collar and chin guard wicks moisture from your face while getting to the summit, while the attached adjustable hood gives you an option to use a hood or put it away when its not necessary.

"The well-priced Aegis is tricked out with a thoughtful array of features—from the stashable hood to pit zips to small fleecy patches at the chin and back of the neck. But what really impressed us was how breathable it is," says Outside Buyer's Guide editor, Sam Moulton. "Usually, jackets in this price range have a tendency to get clammy quickly, but the Aegis kept us cool and dry in everything from a fast-moving and fierce Colorado rainstorm to an all-day drizzle in Alaska," he adds.

The Rock/Creek guide to Marmot rain jackets
"I’ll be the first to admit it: it can be a bit confusing to shop for rain jackets. It seems every manufacturer has their own proprietary waterproofing technology, a couple of trademarked names, and there must be hundreds of different rain jackets on the market! Since Marmot makes our best-selling line of rain jackets, let’s start by focusing there… but things are still a little tricky..."

Comments about Marmot Aegis Jacket 2011 (Men's):

The jacket was good for stopping wind and light rain from car to building. But when I took it out in a driving cold rain, my baselayer was wet up to my elbows. The jacket looked good, fit well in the arms (I am 6'4") and was a bit generous in the chest/midsection (I am 175 lbs)

LOVE THE JACKET. ONLY THING I WOULD HAVE DIFFERENT IS CHEST POCKET INSTEAD OF SLEEVE POCKET. JUST MY PREFERENCE FOR USABILITY.

Comments about Aegis Jacket 2011 (Men's):

Bought the Aegis to use for cycling, hiking, spring skiing, and general around-town wear. Have cycled with it in NW downpours and cool-but-dry weather. Water from the outside has not gotten in. Water vapor from the inside has mostly gotten out. It is definitely more breathable than other jackets I have used for cycling or skiing. This jacket's breathability seems to be near-equal to GoreTex and EVent jackets I was considering yet it cost substantially less.
The hood is big enough to fit over a cycling or ski helmet, turns with my head, and does not obscure my peripheral vision. Zippers operate well with one hand and don't snag. I'm 6'0", 205 lbs. Large size fits. Sleeves long enough, body loose enough to wear over sweaters, length is fine, though front is definitely shorter than the back. It's also very light and packable.

Comments about Marmot Aegis Jacket 2011 (Men's):

Having previously owned a Oracle jacket, which is made of the same shell material, I can attest to the waterproofedness and breathability of this piece of gear. I love this jacket, I really do, but I have two problems with it. I was looking for a jacket with 'pack pockets,' those nice chest height pockets for your hands. This is advertised as having those. And while the zippers are certainly at the right height, the pocket itself extend to the bottom of the jacket, which is just awkward. The ONLY other issue I have with it is my fault for not reading the description closely enough, but it is a minor qualm: there is no chest pocket for gear, but a sleeve pocket instead. That pocket isnt nearly as useful for chapstick or other gear as the chest one is, but hey this thing is WICKED LIGHT by not having too many features.
