I've worn these leggings backpacking and snowboarding as a baselayer. They retain enough heat to be worn underneath softshell or rain pants for the backcountry during the evening and early morning at camp, and are super breathable for snow sports. They've also held up well as an only layer for climbing. A very versitile choice if you aren't sure if you want the ultralight or midweight leggings. This is the perfect weight. Mine got a bit chewed up on thorn bushes when I didn't take pants on an early fall hike and needed something to cover my legs. After pulling out all the briars, I found the functionality intact, and plan on using them for years to come.
