The Lid is designed for Granite Gear's ultralight packs that do not come with a top for the pack, such as the Virga, Vapor Trail, Nimbus Ozone and the Alpine Vapor.  This lids allows you to make your pack a bit more versatile with its stretch top that expands to stow the small stuff you need quickly.  The Lid also protects the top of the pack to keep your stuff dry and safe from the elements.
