Rock/Creek Upchuck 50k registration to open Sep 1 at 12:00 noon
Registration for the Rock/Creek Upchuck 50k trail race is set to open this weekend. The event is the latest in the Salomon Rock/Creek Trail Series. Sign-up will take place at the link below, which will be live beginning immediately at 12:00 noon (eastern time) on Sunday, September 1:
The 2013 race takes place on Saturday, November 9. Race capacity is extremely limited, closing when a total of 75 runners is reached. Registration is first-come, first-served and there will be no waiting list, refunds or transfers. Last year, this race sold out in about 45 minutes.
Upchuck 50k is a cult classic, a point-to-point 50k trail race held entirely on the challenging singletrack trails of the Cumberland Trail near Chattanooga, Tennessee. The footing is rocky and technical, the climbs and descents are steep and the setting is remote.
The seriously difficult course makes for very slow finishing times. As such, this race is completely inappropriate for those running their first 50k – to qualify, all Upchuck registrants must have completed a 50k within the past 12 months, in a time of 7:30:00 or less.
“I’ve been running about 50 kilos every couple days out in them woods,” says local runner and Soddy-Daisy resident Ray Jay. “I think I can run (the Upchuck course) in about 8 hours.”
