Lifelong running goals:
I have run over 200 ultras, so my goal now is to keep enjoying the ride (while pushing as hard as my body will allow).
I was raised by my grandparents in a rural farming community. They taught me the work ethic needed for life (and for running!). I now have two beautiful daughters who like to watch dad do various crazy running antics. My lovely wife understands my passion and between us we strive to maintain a healthy balance of family time, work, and training. It was fun having them as my “pit crew” during the last days of the cross Tennessee race and watching them realize some achievements don’t come easy…but with patience they can happen.
I have been blessed in the ultrarunning society…I have won at least one ultra every year for the last 19 years, with 58 overall wins at the various ultra distances
2012 season summary:
I serve as the grand-prix coordinator for our local club (Huntsville Track Club) and score all the races in the series (17 races). I also serve as the HTC Adopt-a-Trail Coordinator to aid in policing the Land Trust and Monte Sano Park Trail system. As far as racing in 2012, I ran 10 ultras winning two of them (Black Warrior 50K and Dizzy 50 Miler), placed well in a few others…also suffered a great deal in some!
Proudest running accomplishments:
I would mention a couple: Each of my 9 wins at Mountain Mist, my perfect attendance at Mtn Mist (2 of us have finished all 19 of the events), my course record at the Vol-State 500K (race across Tennessee), and finally coaching several of my buddies to finishing their first ultras.
Planned races for 2013:
Black Warrior 50K
Mount Cheaha 50K
Delano 50 Miler
A summer 100 miler
Chattanooga Stage Races
Vol-State 500K (tentative)
A fall 100 miler
Lookout Mountain 50 Miler
Mountain Mist 50K (Jan 2014-20th year)
Perhaps a couple of other events…
