How to properly clean your Chacos
e are not chemists nor rocket scientists, but we wear our Chacos constantly, and we know what works and what doesn’t. We also believe in helping you maintain your investment to keep your Chacos going for years. Our suggestions are low-impact, safe methods and will not delaminate the rubber, nor cause the webbing to crack or fade.
Chaco Sandals: the unofficial official recovery sandal of the Rock/Creek Race Team
If you’ve seen members of the Rock/Creek Race Team at trail races around the country, you’ve probably seen more than one pair of Chacos, and that’s no accident. Chaco isn’t an official sponsor of our Race Team, but so many of our runners wear Chacos before and after racing that we’re going to go ahead and call them an unofficial one...
Rock/Creek & Chaco Sandals donate $3,000 to plant trees in Chattanooga
The $3,000 will fund the planting of 18 trees in two sections of median on Dallas Road in Chattanooga. The species selected for planting is an American Elm cultivar called “Princeton,” bred for its resistance to Dutch Elm Disease. By selecting the American Elm, we’re re-introducing a native tree to the urban landscape...

I wear some form of Chaco sandal every single day. When the weather's fairly warm I wear a pair to work. At the very least I end up slipping on a pair of the leather Flip to take the garbage out or to go get the mail.
Since I live in a warm climate, I can wear them all year round. My favorites are Z/1 and ZX/1, but I find that the model is all just personal preference.
I prefer not to have the strap on my toe, others prefer the strap because it holds the sandal in place tightly. I do have Z/2's (the model with the toe strap) and will opt to wear those if I'm going to be in and out of water and really need the control you get from having your toe strapped down.
If you wear Chacos often they're going to stink after a week or so, so keep in mind that you can throw them in the wash with towels or anything else durable. Don't dry them obviously- they'll air dry fine overnight. If they really stink, you might want to pull the straps so that the part that's usually under the sole is exposed and can be thoroughly washed.

I like the way the straps can be adjusted to personalize the fit. However, a snug fit makes the sandal difficult to put on. Also, when I tighten the strap across my ankle, I end up with a long tail that flaps around.
The sandal is very comfortable and the sole should provide good support and traction. It is heavy, however.

Comments about Chaco Sandals Z/1 Vibram Unaweep Sandals (Men's):
On a whitewater rafting trip, I forgot my water shoes and had to buy a pair of Chaco's. I was very upset because of the price I had to pay and I'd never heard of them. That was in 2002...I think. Still have the same pair today and they look as good as the day I purchased them. Don't let $$$ stop you from buying this shoe. Worth every penny and then some.

Comments about Z/1 Vibram Unaweep Sandals (Men's):
I got this product for my boyfriend and he wears them all the time. We just recently went to the beach for two weeks and they were all he wore, even on the beach and in the water. He says that they are very comfortable and they stay on his feet as opposed to flip flops. He loves them! I would definately buy him another pair.

Comments about Z/1 Vibram Unaweep Sandals (Men's):
Great cinch system on straps, easy on/off, yet stays secure. Sole and form make them great at the river on rocks, sand, and mud. I wear mine with khakis to work; jeans or shorts for casual situations. I've had three friends ask about these sandals, which I would recommend based on comfort, style, durability, and price. Thank you to whomever designed this sandal for Chaco.

Comments about Z/1 Vibram Unaweep Sandals (Men's):
I bought these for my Grandson. He had Tevas when he was three and wore them as long as possible even with socks in late fall. He would only change to shoes or sneakers after it got really cold. For the past five years he has been wearing Chacos and now at thirteen he still expects a new pair of Chacos every year. I think that I created a monster, but he cretainly enjoys his sandals. He wears them everywhere. Fly fishing, Kayaking, School, out to dinner, etc. Thanks Chaco and Rock Creek.

Comments about Z/1 Vibram Unaweep Sandals (Men's):
My Chacos earned there spot as number 1 favorite shoe. They offer simplicity because there aren't laces to worry about and if they get dirty I just throw them in the washing machine or take a hose and an old toothbrush to them.

These sandals rock! This is my second pair because I am really hard on my sandals. My first pair lasted for 8 years, but finally cracked because I bend down a lot packing my parachute. I will hopefully have them fo another 8! well worth the money.

Comments about Z/1 Vibram Unaweep Sandals (Men's):
I bought these for my boyfriend and he has not taken them off since. This style does not require the "break in period" like the Z/2s might. They look great on his feet. I would love to get a pair for myself.

Comments about Z/1 Unaweep Performance Sandals (Men's):
I own two pairs of Chaco - a Z/2 and a Zong - and got these for my dad, who has very wide, hard-to-fit feet. He usually has to order wide and two sizes up and goes through a pair of cheap water sandals every summer. I got him these in wide and only a 1/2 size up and they were perfect. In our experience, Chaco sandals require a good week or two of break-in time for someone who is not used to the footbed; but after that, they're like a second sole to the foot. It's actually not the shoe that breaks in, it's your foot that does the adjusting. I'm never going back to other hiking sandals, and my dad is happy with them, too! I'm on my fourth and fifth years of wear on my Chacos, and they're holding strong. Per year, it's way worth the price.Rock/Creek's price and service were excellent.
